Ceremony Ideas
Blessing of the Rings
The wedding ring is an external symbol of a couples’ commitment to each other for the world to see. The circle symbolizes the eternality of the soul and living together in unity, love and happiness.
Unity Candle Ceremony
The Unity Candle Ceremony is used in many traditional weddings. One candle is lit from two separate candles showing the couples desire to be united as one.
The Candles may be lit by a member of the wedding party or the couple depending on the effect desired during the ceremony.
Breaking of the Glass
The breaking of the glass ceremony is traditionally a Jewish ceremony. However it is now used as a beautiful ending to any ceremony. The broken glass symbolizes the frailty of any relationship and how easily a thoughtless act can damage the relationship and be as irreparable as the glass shattered on the floor.
Sand Ceremony - Blending of Families
The sand ceremony is great for blending families. Each family member has a different colored sand and takes turns pouring the sand into a larger container making a beautiful pattern. This ceremony is one of the best for blending the children from previous marriages and giving them a way to participate.
Flower Ceremony
This ceremony is perfect for family and friends to show their loving support. Each designated person comes up and places a different flower in a vase to create a bouquet of loving support.
Honoring the Mothers & or Grandmothers
A brief reading is done and then the couple each presents their mother(s) with a small gift. Usually flowers. In a Native American Ceremony the mothers would drape a ceremonial blanket around the couple to show their support of the union.
Silent Blessing & a Moment of Remembrance
Both are small blessings/readings honoring the deceased. They may include spcecific names or a general statement.
Handfasting or Ribbon Ceremony
Traditionally an ancient Celtic ceremony where the officiant uses a ribbon to loosely bind the couple’s two hands together to symbolize their unbreakable bond. They remain that way for the rest of the ceremony.
Rose Ceremony
Similar to the candle ceremony in significance but more conducive to outside weddings. Two red roses are used to symbolize each person. A third white rose is used to symbolize their spiritual union. A very powerful and beautiful ceremony.
Blessing to the Four Directions
Traditionally a Native American Ceremony calling in the spirits of the four directions plus Father Sky and Mother Earth to bless the couple. Normally this is done with a pipe and may include a pipe ceremony where the couple smokes the ceremonial pipe.
Wine Ceremony
Want something your parents would never have dreamed of? Something unique to your ceremony? Consider a wine ceremony. During the ceremony the couple will pour a glass of wine and before drinking will toast the special people in their lives and each other. Very moving and a perfect lead in to the Giving of Roses.
Giving of Roses Ceremony
This very powerful ceremony is a show stopper. The wedding couple will honor all the people who brought them together, or had an influence in their lives by gifting each one a long stem rose. It is incredibly touching, and full of photographic moments for your wedding album.
